The Fort Morgan Recreation Department will be hosting the Rockies Skills Challenge Saturday, June 10, at Legion Field. The Rockies Skills Challenge tests skills for boys and girls ages 6 to 13 in batting off a tee, throwing with distance and accuracy and running bases. Children of all skill levels are welcome to come enjoy the fun. Kids will compete against other kids their own age. Age divisions will be 6-7, 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. The top boy and girl in each age division at the Fort Morgan event will advance to regional competition and have an opportunity to qualify for the state competition. Registration for the local Rockies Skills Challenge will be on the day of the event, starting at1:30 p.m. on June 10 at the Legion Field baseball diamond. Haxtun Hospital District Foundation is holding their 2nd Annual Golf Tournament Four Person Scramble on Friday, June 9th at F&H Golf Course, 43355 County Road 30 in Haxtun. $75 per person includes green fees, cart, lunch, and prize registration. A Dinner and Silent Auction for Deann Knapp of Haxtun will be held Saturday June 10th at 5:00pm at The Haxtun Community Center 125 East Wilson, Haxtun CO 80731. Deann is a mom of 5 young children and has been a nurse with Hospice of the Plains for many years. She is now struggling with unknown health problems of her own. We are trying to raise funds for her to be able to travel to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Registration will be held behind Sterling High School near the football practice field. Cost is $90 per player. The registration form is available online at http://www.spyfl.com. Please fill out the 2017 form located on this website, print it out, and bring it with you to the registration. Late registrations will be accepted through July 28th for a fee of $105 per player. Absolutely no registrations after this date.
The Indiana Hills Junior Golf Clinic runs from June 12th through June 16th for boys and girls aged 5-14. Learn the FUNdamentals of golf as ages 5-9 will meet from 8AM-9:30am and ages 10-14 will meet from 10AM-12PM monday through Thursday with a tournament on Friday at 9AM. Fee is $25. Weldon Valley Warrior Youth Basketball Camp will be held on Monday, June 12th and Tuesday, June 13th from 8AM to 10AM at Weldon Valley School Gym for boys and girls entering grades 5 through 8. Cost is $25 for first child, $20 for each additional. The camp will be teaching the fundamentals of the game, fundamental drills, as well as playing competitive games.
The 1st Annual Father's Day Fishing Derby will be held on Sunday, June 18th from 8AM to Noon at the Overland Trail Pond. Entry fee is $12 per father/child, $3 for each additional child ages 3-15. Blue Horizons and Brush Rotary present "A Little Dose of Horse Sense," a horse camp for children ages 10 through 12 who have had no experience with horses. This camp will be held June 19th through June 23rd from 8:30AM to 12PM at Dillehay Ranch, 4 miles northeast of Brush. Cost is $25. Prairie Volleyball will be hosting a skills camp at Prairie School on June 29th and 30th. The morning sessions will be held from 9 am.-12 p.m. and will include grades 6-9th grade. (This means your grade in the upcoming year.)The afternoon camp is for 10th-12th grade. This session will take place from 1-4 p.m. Day one is passing, setting and defense. Serving, hitting and blocking will be covered on day 2. Camp clinicians will be current and former successful coaches and college volleyball players. The cost is $30.00 per day and we will be capping the numbers for the camp to ensure that there is plenty of individualized instruction. There is still plenty of room to add players. Fort Morgan Police Department is hosting a free summer youth academy for teenagers ages 13 through 18.
